Conference resumes

Procedural amendment put forward and reaches 100 votes needed. Based on belief that the conference is not in a position to pass the motion 301E.

Michael Chessum, UCL, gives opposing speech: “let’s atleast have a proper political vote about it.”

Amendment falls so amendment is presented by Michael Chessum. NUS has repeatedly failed to organise student movement and has stepped aside at major protests, leaving the mobilisation upto other organisations. “They call that responsible leadership. I call that derisory,” Chessum said.

Ed Marsh, NEC, believes that we should not pay someone else to organise for us i.e. affiliating with NAFC

Sarah Pinter, SOAS, speaks in favour.

Vote: the motion clearly falls.
